Check On Flint

The water crisis in Flint, Michigan that made national headlines continues to plague residents. Even as some pipes have been installed, thousands of families in the city of Flint still do not have access to clean drinking water. For this activation, we worked with Black Millenials for Flint and First Trinity Baptist Church to deliver 40,000 bottles of water, which was distributed to the families of Flint still impacted by this water crisis.

Our primary focuses are food insecurity and food apartheid, total wellness, and environmental conservation.

Vernon Houses

Honor Humanity answered the need of the residents of the Vernon Housing Building in Brooklyn, New York. This Summer, We learned that the families here have been without gas, since February, 2020. This means no cooking, within the home without a hot plate, etc. Even in that reality, it could take hours to cook ONE meal. All of this is happening in the middle of a Global Pandemic. We teamed up with Evelyn’s Kitchen and owner Ayala Donchin, who so generously donated 100 meals to the families of this NYCHA managed property. The building’s TA, Ms. Witherspoon is so dedicated to the safety and food insecurity issues there, that she allowed us to collectively benefit the need. We take so much for granted and We know coming home to a working stove in the kitchen, is now a blessing.

Our primary focuses are food insecurity and food apartheid, total wellness, and environmental conservation.

Through the Healthy At Home series, we will create a program that promotes health and quality of life, two cornerstones of the Urban League’s mission.

Turkey Drive

The Lower East Side in Manhattan is home to a large, under-served community. 5 years ago, Society of Soles started a turkey drive to help these families celebrate Thanksgiving traditionally, as many could not afford a turkey on their own. As the program has grown, we realized providing a turkey was not enough. We provide the essentials for a full meal to feed a family of four on Thanksgiving to bring hope and happiness to these families during the holiday season.

A Seat At The Table

On Saturday, November 17, 2018, we hugged fathers, husbands, political candidates, small business owners, Hurricane Harvey Survivors, Light Bearers, MEN that wanted to be the change they so desperately want the world to see. A Seat At The Table was the First Activation of Ten we will do across the country. What a day of love. This was not a panel, this wasn’t a networking event filled with the typical faces and popular names. This was intent. This was purpose and in the words of Charles Coleman Jr., this was God’s Work. Our infinite gratitude to all the participants, sponsors, volunteers for such a day as this. The Community of Houston rallied behind our very special honorees and mentors with service, donations and love.

Superhero Day in BK

What a day! We closed out the Black Superhero Project in our home city of Brooklyn, with a fun-filled day benefitting the 4th and 5th graders of PS 161. A number of professional mentors came out to engage with the kids, a team of chefs made them lunch, and the kids left with a swag bag packed with cool items. Thank you Principal Johnson for being a gracious host. Thank You Chef Tiffani and Brian Keith for putting together a great event, and thank you to all the volunteers who loved on the kids. You made them feel like the superheroes they are.

More than 3,000 people return to the City of Boston each year upon release from federal, state, county, and juvenile detention facilities. The returning citizens will be a part of the 5.3 million New Englanders with criminal records subject to more than 3,500 collateral consequences not limited to housing, education, health and employment. As such Boston has committed to create equitable and inclusive opportunities for returning citizens to thrive and contribute to the preservation and enhancement of the City of Boston. As part of the Black Superhero Project, CFC40 supported Boston’s Day of Inclusion, and spoke with a number of individuals who returned from incarceration, and the folks dedicated to helping them re-enter society. Check on Columbia

CFC40 teamed up with Love Yourself Always Inc., a Columbia, SC based non-profit whose mission is to support the self-esteem of women and girls through different activities. The focus of this activation was to engage around 30 adolescent black girls from the Richland county area who are without a consistent positive male presence in their lives. The day’s activities began with a speech from Charles encouraging the girls to strive for greatness, followed by a session with Olympic Judo Champion Rhadi Ferguson who taught the girls self-defense moves. Brunch followed, with the girls engaging with male mentors who engaged in candid conversations to show these young ladies there are positive males out there. The day culminated with each young lady receiving a new bicycle! The male mentors then took time to help the girls learn to ride and enjoy the warm South Carolina day.
